We know what you have read and we know what you have heard, but what if that’s not really the way it happened? What if Bella never got pregnant and Renesmee was never even thought of, much less born? The year is 2013 and just a few short years ago things were peaceful. The Cullens and the wolves were getting along, friends even after their shared battle against Victoria and her newborn army. Bella was still head over heels in love with Edward and begging him to change her, to make her immortal as he was. Their wedding day was just around the corner and Jake was doing everything he could to try and win Bella’s heart, to change her mind and save her from becoming a monster.
The wedding day came and went without a hitch and before they knew it the happy newlyweds were on their way to Isle Esme and a honeymoon neither would ever forget. But this is where the story changes. Their first night together began like a fairytale; Romantic dinner, moonlit swim, then off to the bedroom for some alone time. But in the heat of the moment Edward made a mistake. He lost control and finally gave Bella what she had been requesting all these months, and all by accident. He slipped up and bit her, starting the transformation almost instantly. Knowing that it was bound to happen sooner or later and this was all that she had ever wanted, Edward refrained from taking the venom back, allowing the change. Three days later the couple was back in Forks and Bella awoke…a newborn. Finally feeling a part of the family, Bella was the happiest she had ever been and the fairytale seemed to pick up right where it left off.
However, all is not well in paradise. Upon hearing the news, a division began to form within the pack of shifters. Slowly the rift grew until one day Jake snapped and broke off from Sam’s pack, claiming his role as rightful alpha of a new pack. A few of the wolves joined him and along with his new pack Jake claimed half of La Push, the half that bordered Forks. Deciding this was the only peaceful way to co-exist, Sam agreed, though not happily. Instantly planning began as the two alpha’s prepared to fight for what they believed to be right. Sam seeing Bella’s turning to be a threat to the humans in the area, especially the tribe. Having heard stories of a newborns uncontrollable thirst, he fears for the life of his people and uses that fear to fuel his efforts, claiming the Cullens broke the treaty when they bit the human girl, ending her human life forever. Jake however still cannot get over Bella, even though he knows she is now technically the enemy. But despite what tradition and instincts tell him, Jake considers Bella a friend now and forever and plans to protect her until he dies, even if she is a vampire now.
The Cullens are worried about this threat of war but something else has their focus at the moment. Rosalie left just after hearing the news of Bella being bitten telling her family that she desired to live with only Emmett for at time. Returning in three years time, she is strangely not alone with her mate. Beside her and Emmett walks a small boy who looks to be no older than ten. Apparently the child was dying and in a desperate attempt to save his life and her weakened and depressed state from before, Rose accidentally turned the child, thus creating an immortal child. She now views the boy as her son and quickly lets the family know she will protect the boy with her life if necessary despite the criticism and danger the boy poses to her family. Esme and Bella jumped behind Rose almost instantly, supporting her choice and backing her up as well, each for their own reasons. Alice struggled with the choices as the future was never shown to her, leading her to assume wolves were involved somewhere along the way, but soon after Alice joined the girls’ side, not able to fathom the idea of killing the child now. Edward, Carlisle, and Jasper are left conflicted, struggling between protecting their family and not wanting to hurt the girls. Meanwhile Emmett seems unconcerned and a bit relaxed about the whole thing. He has been teaching the boy as a father would, but doesn’t seem too attached either. Nobody can really explain it but it seems more like Emmett refuses to pick a side and thus continues to ride the fence on the matter.
Meanwhile the child has some plans of his own and a growing thirst for human blood, despite the vegetarian lifestyle his “mom” has forced upon him. Showing a special talent of his own, it’s all the family can do to watch after and take care of the small boy, much less keep their secret and the humans safe. The whole family is beginning to understand first hand why beings like the small boy are outlawed and yet sadly it seems too little too late. As for the humans? The humans go on about their daily routines, unaware of the impending dangers now lurking in their forests, or the disaster that could unfold if the child or newborn finally snap and lose control. Thus is the never ending song of life and death….Thus is Eternal Requiem!
